SUNDRIES
Nearly four years ago, I taught a class called “Unlocking and Appreciating the World of Jesus” in Denver. The eight presentations were a distillation of the best information I could glean from dozens of resources and the fruit of spending a month in Israel on pilgrimage where I “picked the brains” of Bible scholars there. The response of the nearly 180 students who signed up was gratifying. Most of this material had never been presented to a Catholic audience. It motivated me to continue to study the Jewish roots of our Christian faith ever since. I recommended many books to students at the time, but wished the “cream of the crop” insights and gems of the scholarship in this field could be in a single volume. Well, my wish came true!
Zondervan recently published “Sitting at the Feet of Rabbi Jesus: How the Jewishness of Jesus can Transform Your Faith.” Co-authored by Ann Spangler (Catholic) and Lois Tverberg (Lutheran), this 250 page volume is not only carefully and creatively written to introduce students to the milieu of the Gospels, but more importantly to the person of Christ. Sit at His feet with Mary, discover the power behind the parables, string pearls with our Savior, and explore the importance of having “haverim” in your life. Each chapter is a delight, offering fantastic insights into moments from the Gospels, but the book also has a fantastic set of appendices offering recommended resources, a 50+ word glossary of terms, and over 200 helpful footnotes. Plus, now there is an interactive website @ www.ourrabbijesus.com
I think every student of Scripture - Catholic, Orthodox or Evangelical should have this volume on their reference shelf, and I am confident you will enjoy it as much as I did!
